Here at Zaddy’s, we love scary movies. We’ll usually opt for a psychological thriller over body horror, but really we’ll watch it all. So spooky season is our favorite season, because it’s the one time of year where our dark viewing habits are justified, and we can convince our scaredy-cat friends to watch with us.

Since we’re die-hard fans of the genre, a list of our all-time favorite scary movies would be overwhelming; so for this Zlog, we decided to stick to films we love that were released within the last 5 years. These 9 chilling movies are best paired with cold cans of Zaddy’s. And for those of you not so into the genre, you should watch and drink anyway because ‘tis the seasonand the devil can’t get you when you’re wasted!

Hereditary (2018)

Ari Aster’s debut film is easily our favorite recent scary movie. Between Toni Collette’s incredible acting and the impeccable set design—where no tiny detail was overlooked—Hereditary will definitely leave you up at night, so make sure to drink at least 3 cans while viewing to help you fall asleep easier afterwards.

Goodnight Mommy (2015)

This is another feature debut that absolutely slaps. Austrian filmmaking duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (whose other movie The Lodge is def worth a watch too) unleash psychological mayhem with some creepy identical twins—make sure not to confuse your cans while watching with friends!

Spree (2020)

It’s Kurt’s world and we’re all just living in it. Cheers to this genre-bending, wild ride—@kurtsworld96 let’s collab!

Train to Busan (2016)

There are so many epic Korean horror films, but Train to Busan is a next-level rush. Zaddy’s Corpse Reviver pairs extra nicely with this movie about the undead.

Mandy (2018)

Nick Cage truly outdoes himself in this trippy, satanic cult flick. Just don’t drink every time he screams or you’ll brown out.

Creep 2 (2017)

When we say Creep 2 is one of our favs, we obviously mean the whole Creep series, so be sure to watch the first one too if you haven’t seen it. This movie has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (enough said), and you 100% need at least a Zaddy’s 4-pack to mellow out while you watch.

Antebellum (2020)

While this movie is pretty rough to get through in the beginning (a lot of gruesome slave violence) it definitely delivers at the end. Don’t get your cans caught in this major twist.

The Witch (2015)

This terrifying period piece, set in New England circa 1600, is extremely well done. Warning: one too many Zaddy’s and you won’t understand their Puritan, Old English ramblings.

Suspiria (2018)

A remake of the 1977 horror classic, and from the director who brought you Call Me By Your Name, this beautifully gorey film is the complete opposite of that movie. Don’t drink too much Zaddy’s or you’ll miss Tilda Swinton’s unbelievable costume change. Hell yes witches!!
