The very first time I encountered a Gin and “Sonic” was with my dad. He claims that he coined the term with his buddy back in ’13, but upon doing a little research we found that wasn’t true—we’re still arguing with him about it to this day. This dadderific dose of quality gin and the subbing of tonic water for seltzer, with just a “splash” of tonic, is what we are ultimately all about. If your thing is drinking Schweppes tonic straight from the bottle and it genuinely quenches your thirst, I am certainly not one to judge, but this drink is probably not for you.

The thing about tonic water that really gets my goat is that it presents as a seemingly harmless drink—so clear and bubbly—found in aisles next to seltzer and standard H2O. But having a gin and tonic is likely going to clock the old calorie counter at a whopping 170. Might as well break out the wings and IPA and have a real party! All that roasting a timeless classic cocktail aside, the calories aren’t as annoying to me as the sheer amount of sugar in traditional tonic water, it’s chock-full! You’re glugging down 32gs! Fortunately, you can still get those G&T feels but sub all that nasty sugar out with the pure effervescence (amazing word) of good seltzer and a splash of tonic to smooth over the piney juniper taste of gin—the exact point of the G&T!

Now it is clear. My dad did not make this shit up. It seems to be more of a collective effort that migrated here from Japan. According to Google lore, “Gin and Sonic” was invented in Tokyo sometime in the early 2000s by combining the words soda and tonic together. The original recipe calls for equal parts soda and tonic and about 2oz of gin. What we crafted is just a splash of tonic on some crisp seltzer with lime, mint, and a subtle hint of gin. We think you’ll love it. And because they’re not so goddamn sugary, you won’t wake up a useless, hungover bastard after a night of drinking them.
