As Turkey Day approaches and COVID-19 travel restrictions ramp up, it might finally be sinking in just how intimate Thanksgiving will be this year. Whether you’re devastated that you won’t get to stuff your face with your fav cousins, or you’re celebrating avoiding another unbearable dinner with your in-laws, one thing is certain—a stiff drink’s in order.

Here are three interesting ways to turn up the heat on your Gin Sonic this season:

Put some Gimli-sized girth on that cucumber-mint gimlet by adding half a can of Gin Sonic. It’s a super refreshing autumn elixir, and all you need is:

Cucumber, mint, simple syrup, gin

Zaddy’s Gin Sonic Directions:

1. Fill glass with ice

2. In other glass or bowl, muddle 2 thicc slices of cucumber that you have kindly peeled and quartered

3. Take 9 mint leaves and do the same!

4. Pour a ½ teaspoon of simple syrup (which I didn’t have so I used some honey!)

5. Muddle it all together.

6. 2 oz gin of your choice (we went with Griffo’s Scott Street gin because it slaps)

7. Stir or shake

8. Pour into iced glass and fill rest with Zaddy’s Gin Sonic. I even threw some bitters on top! BOOM!

We were inspired to create a mint-gin sonic tea by rocking out to Mike Myers’ band Ming Tea.

Ingredients include:

Unsweetened black iced tea (we chose Tejava), lemon juice, gin, Zaddy’s Gin Sonic

Directions:

1. Fill pint glass with ice

2. ¼ cup Tejava tea or any black tea

3. ½ lemon juice

4. 1 oz gin of your choice (we went with Griffo’s Scott Street gin because, again, it slaps)

5. Fill the rest of the glass with Zaddy’s Gin Sonic and throw a dang lemon wedge in it and you’re on your way!

How is it possible that something so cold can make you so warm inside? Adding some homemade winter syrup to the Gin Sonic creates the perfect snow storm of a cocktail.

Winter syrup ingredients (mix all together):

1. ½ cup sugar
2. ½ cup water
3. 1 cinnamon stick
4. 5 cloves
5. 1 star anise
6. 1 cardamom pod
7. 5 peppercorns (whatever you got!)
8. 1 drop of vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Let sugar and water simmer until fully mixed

2. While simmering, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and stir occasionally for 10 minutes

3. Remove from heat add 1 drop of vanilla extract or 1 half vanilla bean

4. Let cool for 20 minutes and then store refrigerated for up to two weeks!

5. Add a half ounce of syrup to an iced glass of Gin Sonic. Stir and enjoy!
